Station renovations to start across the country - focus on smaller settlements
The MÁV is launching the renovation of 36 stations across the country as part of its self-financed development programme, according to Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium Facebook post.
These are mainly smaller stations outside the county, but in many cases the buildings are more than a hundred years old, they said.
In the framework of the improvement programme, 19 admission buildings in 14 counties will be renovated: waiting rooms will be modernised, air conditioning will be installed, facades will be renovated, doors and windows will be replaced, roofs will be repaired and toilets will be renovated.
In Salgótarján and Kőbánya-Alsó stations, the stairs and underpasses leading to the platforms will also be renewed. In the framework of the Hungarian Village programme, brand new, lightweight, heated-cooled waiting rooms will be built at 11 stops in places where there was previously no adequate infrastructure, they added.
Finally, the Gyula station was highlighted, which will be restored to its original inter-war style, with the original roof and floor of the building restored to its original state.
