What is being built?
An important element of the BYD factory infrastructure is ready
As we previously reported, work began in March on the new industrial research and development centre in Szeged, near the BYD factory in Szeged's new industrial research and development centre, construction of a 630-metre-long sewage pipe began in March on behalf of Szegedi Vízművek. According to the Public Procurement Bulletin data , the investment was carried out by Délút Kft., and the investor waterworks informed our newspaper that from 6 March 2025 to mid-July 2025, the new sewer was built in Szeged, next to Budapesti út – also known as Main Road No. 5 – in the so-called „green belt”. They explained:
The sewer was completed on time and in good quality, and will discharge nearly half of the BYD plant's wastewater, 2 500 m3 of wastewater per day.
It is not only the construction of the BYD factory and the development of its infrastructure that are progressing rapidly on site: in February, reported that the Colas Út Zrt. was alsoin the implementation of a joint consortium with completed the large-scale infrastructure development of the University of Szeged Science Park research, development and innovation centre.
The BYD electric car factory currently under construction, the already completed ELI-ALPS laser research centre and the Rheinmetall factory (which included the construction of two lakes, approximately 5.8 kilometres of water and sewage pipes) will enable the world's leading large companies to work together with the research facilities being built here.
