Another school in the Szekszárd area is set to be refurbished
The roots of the Reformed and Catholic denominational schools in Decs date back as far as the 16th century. Following nationalisation in 1948, these were merged to form the single municipal primary school, named Bíborvég after the district in which it is situated.
Due to the growing number of pupils in the 1960s and 1970s, the school was provided with a modern school building comprising several classrooms, a gymnasium and a specialist-subject wing, thus enabling the classes – which had previously been scattered across several locations – to be brought together in one place. The Szekszárd School District Centre now intends to refurbish the resulting complex of buildings as part of a comprehensive modernisation programme. According to the latest public procurement notice indicates that Ponty-Bau Kft. will be able to renovate several elements of the building, which has a usable floor area of approximately 2,600 m2 , at a cost of 248 million forints.
A complete exterior refurbishment is set to begin
As part of the works, the school building will be refurbished both externally and to improve its energy efficiency. Specialists will demolish the chimneys that are no longer needed, after which the façade and plinth will be fitted with thermal insulation and a new, modern coloured render. To stop leaks on the flat roof, a new layer of waterproofing and thermal insulation will be laid; to do this, the existing solar panel system will be temporarily removed and then reinstalled after the roof renovation, supplemented by a new, state-of-the-art lightning protection system.
In addition, the old windows and doors are being replaced with modern plastic windows and doors, as well as aluminium curtain walls with large glass panels in two locations.
Flooring is being replaced over an area of 600 square metres
A major refurbishment of the interior design and building services is set to take place inside the building, in both the classrooms and the communal areas. Following the removal of some partition walls, the old, worn-out carpets and PVC flooring will be stripped, and new, hard-wearing flooring will be laid across more than six hundred square metres. The interior walls, covering several thousand square metres, will be completely re-plastered and repainted; the toilet blocks will be fitted with new sanitary ware; and the heating pipework and lighting will also be partially upgraded.
