Work continues on the Flórián Square overpass despite snow and freezing temperatures
Based on the plans of FŐMTERV Mérnöki Tervező Zrt. is carrying out the general construction of the Flórián Square project based on the plans of KM Építő Kft. is carrying out the general construction of the Flórián Square project with the cooperation of HE-DO. The renovation of the northern overpass at this key junction in the capital's 3rd district continued despite heavy snowfall, although it slowed down as snow removal and de-icing required extra work.
Nevertheless, the installation of the protective scaffolding system and the demolition of the bridge edges continued. In addition, the contractor is using quieter technology for the latter, the effectiveness of which was confirmed by the trial demolition in December.
If the weather permits, repairs to the stone paving can begin.
When the weather is suitable for construction work, the application of salt protection to the structure will continue, and the repair and replacement of missing stone coverings on the bridgeheads can also begin. A detailed assessment of the condition of the reinforced concrete deck of the northern bridge has already been carried out, so the experts now have the task of evaluating the results.
The poor technical condition of the southern overpass at the start of the renovation, which was worse than expected, necessitated significant additional work and more complex interventions than planned. This prompted the experts to carry out the condition assessment of the northern bridge with even greater care than usual.
Those who choose public transport are better off
The second phase of the renovation of the Flórián Square overpasses will continue to involve traffic restrictions. The capacity of the Árpád Bridge and the Flórián Square junction towards Buda and North Buda is lower than during the first phase, therefore BKK recommends avoiding the Árpád Bridge from Pest if possible and choosing another bridge to reach your destination. This will reduce the traffic load on Flórián Square and the surrounding area.
The BKK requests that commuters use public transport, especially high-capacity fixed-route services, whenever possible.
The BKK supports public transport in several ways, offering a meaningful alternative to car users. During peak hours, trams 1 and 1A, as well as buses 34 and 106, run more frequently. On Árpád Bridge, from Népfürdő Street to Szentlélek Square, A temporary bus lane will assist the flow of buses heading towards Buda.
