MAVIR's substation, built on an area of 95,000 square metres, will also strengthen the capital's security of electricity supply.

The new Göd-Keleti substation, built over three years with an investment of HUF 34.3 billion and operated by state-owned MAVIR Zrt., was inaugurated on Wednesday. At the event, the state was represented by Gábor Czepek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy (EM), among others.

As stated in the document published following the previous commissioning: In its information leaflet , MAVIR also emphasised:

This is the largest 400/132 kilovolt (kV) transformer substation in Hungary to date, and is needed to meet the increased electricity demand in the capital and the region to maintain security of supply.

The contractor for the investment was MVM XPert Zrt.. The facility connects to the transmission and distribution network by splitting the 400 kV Kerepes–Göd and Sajószöged–Göd transmission lines. The substation has three 400/128 kV transformers, but it can be expanded with a fourth unit in the future.

The construction involved the installation of 631 tonnes of portal and equipment support steel structure and 358 prefabricated cable duct elements. A 361 square metre control building and seven relay buildings were constructed, and the 132 kV site can accommodate 23 fields with 6 spare fields. During the peak period of the works, approximately 150 to 200 specialists worked on site.

Continuous improvement of security of supply

They pointed out that the acceleration of electrification in recent years has led to a dynamic increase in electricity demand in the country, including in the Budapest area. In addition to residential use - heating and cooling and transport - major industrial investments have started, which will also generate significant consumption in the future.

In these years, MAVIR is implementing an unprecedented programme of investment in security of supply. As an example, new substations and interconnection stations are being built and existing ones expanded in several parts of the country. In the medium and long term, the expansion of international connections to Serbia, Romania and Slovakia is also on the agenda.
