From January, those who have solar panels or undertake to install them can apply for the purchase of energy storage devices for residential purposes under a programme with a budget of HUF 100 billion.

At the beginning of next year, the government will launch a programme aimed at installing energy storage devices for the population, with a budget of HUF 100 billion. Those who already have solar panels or undertake to install them are eligible to participate in the tender.

Here are the conditions for support

Anyone who has a solar panel or undertakes to install one and purchases a 10-kilowatt energy storage unit is eligible to participate in the programme. A non-repayable grant of two and a half million forints is available to help with the purchase of the latter. The state covers approximately 80 per cent of the costs.

The goal is to expand storage capacity

Hungary's solar panel capacity increased from 10 megawatts to 8,100 megawatts between 2010 and 2024, which is equivalent to the output of a nuclear power plant, according to a government spokesperson. The programme, which will start in January, aims to develop storage capacity, as solar energy is only available when the sun is shining.
