Car racing by Lake Balaton - spectacular video of the construction of the Balaton Park Circuit

This motor racing circuit was completed in May, and Colas-csoport recently published a video about its construction here. Less than 90 kilometres from the capital, in Balatonfőkajár, close to Lake Balaton, the short film about the completed complex also provides an insight into the earlier stages of construction.

The finishers, trucks and other machinery of the Colas have been built to the highest safety standards set by the International Automobile Federation and the International Motorsports Federation, and the video shows both the equipment and the project.

The Balaton Park Circuit can host practically any international car or motorcycle race.

All challenges solved

In addition to the video, the Colas group's Facebook post summarised the main technical parameters of the circuit and shared other information about the project.

As the track is almost entirely horizontal, great emphasis had to be placed on drainage. In addition, the installation of the mix in the narrow curves and the hot slurry application of the machine chain consisting of 3 finishers and 9 rollers presented new challenges.

There was a site where 4 finishers were working in parallel

It was also described that the road base was mixed by Colas colleagues in the immediate vicinity of the work site. The wearing course of the racetrack was built with 3 finishers in parallel at the same time, and the 21 m wide reversing arch at the end of the finishing straight was built with 4 finishers.

Finally, in addition to the 4115 metres of track, the other parameters of the large-scale project are listed:

• the track width was 12-21 metres,
• six left turns and ten right turns were completed,
• or 21 200 cubic metres of road base,
• 18 000 tonnes of asphalt binder course,
• and also 18 000 tonnes of asphalt wearing course.
