The Carpathian Event House of Hungarikum Liget was inaugurated

The last investment of the ten-year development series of the Hungarikum Liget, formerly known as Lakitelek Folk High School, the Carpathian Event Hall, built with a gross budget of HUF 3.417 billion, was inaugurated on 24 June 2023.

It was said at the ceremony that the renovation and investment works of the People's College started in 2013 with priority government support and were completed with the inauguration of the Carpathian Event Hall. More than three thousand people worked on the construction of the Hungarikum Island, which covers an area of 26 hectares.

According to the Hungarikum Liget website, the 442-seat Carpathian Event Hall, which can accommodate 1,000 people, is not only a centre for conferences and cultural events. Among other things, it provides space for sports events, as well as for larger concerts, theatre performances, meetings and dance halls.

The Hungarikum Hotel was opened in September 2022. The four-star hotel, built under project numbers ZÁÉV Zrt. and FERROÉP Zrt., offers 79 rooms for those seeking relaxation.

The event hall completes the complex

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has sent a letter of congratulations. In his message, he said that "the history of the Lakitelek Folk High School and the Hungarikum Island that has blossomed from it took root almost four decades ago", the Folk High School movement was launched in the wilderness between the Danube and the Tisza, and various event halls, sports facilities, restaurants and accommodation were built. Now the success story has reached another chapter. With the inauguration of the Carpathian Event Centre, "this exemplary initiative is finally coming to fruition", the Prime Minister wrote.

Sándor Lezsák, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, founder of the Lakitelek Folk High School recalled in his welcome speech that the idea of opening up to the East and the Hungaricum aspiration started from the Lakitelek Folk High School, which later became a law, as the first Hungaricum conference was held in 1993 in the then inaugurated Kölcsey House.

In the complex, now called Hungarikum Liget, the printing house and publishing house, the Institute and Archive for the History of the Change of Order, the library, the local history collection, the library house, the network of folk schools, the film workshop, the greenhouse and vegetable processing plant, the wells, the spa and swimming pool, the hotel, the riding stables, are all part of a large unit, which are perfectly integrated into one whole. However, the work of the nearly 300 employees of the Hungarikum Liget, who work day in, day out, is also essential to its operation - he added.
