On 15 September 2026, the first day of the hearing took place in case Szolnoki Törvényszéken, in which the companies of the Szolnok Tiszaliget fürdőt contractor consortium, as plaintiffs, are seeking payment of their final invoices from the defendant, Szolnok City Council.

At the preliminary hearing, the judge called upon the legal representatives defending the city to specify, within two weeks, the claims set out in their counter-application regarding exactly why they had refused to pay the final invoice. The claimants may then respond to the local authority’s submission. An interesting development in the proceedings is that Szolnok Város Önkormányzata has filed a criminal complaint in connection with the technical inspection. The hearing in the case, which currently stands at 560 million forints, will resume on 10 November 2026.

On the magyarepitok.hu platform, 15 May 2026, a report was published regarding the long-running development of the Szolnok spa. On 15 June 2026, the Mayor of Szolnok, Mihály Győrfi, instructed a law firm to represent the city in the request for a press correction and the related press correction proceedings.

Under current legislation, the person concerned by a press article has 30 days following its publication to submit a request for a correction to the publisher. The publisher must consider such requests within 5 days. If the publisher rejects the request, the person concerned has 15 days to file a claim for a correction with the court, which will hear the case as a matter of urgency.

Acting on behalf of the town of Szolnok, the law firm did indeed send our newspaper a request for a correction; however, as we did not agree with this request, we did not publish the correction. For some strange reason, despite the mayor’s letter of authorisation, the law firm did not, after all, bring a libel case against our newspaper in court seeking a correction. (!) According to the old ladies, this could mean that the facts set out in the report are indeed true.
