The SWIETELSKY Vasúttechnika Kft. has been declared the winner in two railway development projects
According to information published on the Electronic Public Procurement System, the Hungarian company – which has an Austrian parent company – SWIETELSKY Vasúttechnika Kft – a company with an Austrian parent company – has been declared the successful bidder in two tenders. Szabolcs Vingelmann, managing director, made a statement to our newspaper.
„Over the past 18 years, SWIETELSKY Vasúttechnika Kft. has become one of the leading players in the Hungarian railway construction market by utilising state-of-the-art railway construction technology used across Europe. We are proud that our Hungarian specialists and engineers, with several decades’ experience in railway construction, have successfully completed numerous domestic projects to the highest standards during this time.
Our company has rightly been awarded the contracts in question. We are working to realise further major developments and to become key players in the huge wave of railway investment planned for Hungary” – said Szabolcs Vingelmann, managing director of SWIETELSKY Vasúttechnika Kft..
The company continues to play a significant role in the maintenance and refurbishment of the country’s railway lines. Work is currently underway on the Zalaszentiván branch line and the associated new railway station, which will result in a direct rail link between Szombathely and Zalaegerszeg, as part of the GYSEV Zrt. project. As part of the project, which is worth approximately 12 billion forints, a 1,500-metre-long, electrified connecting track will be built, which will eliminate the current, time-consuming need to change direction at Zalaszentiván station.
Development of the Almásfüzitő–Komárom railway line
On this section (13.6 km) of Railway Line 1, the track will be completely rebuilt, enabling speeds of 160 kilometres per hour between Almásfüzitő and Komárom.
In the Electronic Public Procurement System, document published, the contracting authority, the Ministry of Transport and Investment, determined that the joint tender submitted by SWIETELSKY Vasúttechnika Kft. and SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft. offered the best value for money and received the highest score during the evaluation. The contract value is 36,328,648,144 forints.
Városliget junction – Kőbánya-Teher – Kőbánya–Kispest renovation
Railway line No. 100 Budapest – Szolnok – Debrecen – Nyíregyháza – Záhony, Városliget junction – Kőbánya-Teher section of the line, a 2.5 km long, electrified, double-track railway line is being upgraded.
In the tender procedure for MÁV announced in February 2026, Homlok Kft. was initially awarded the contract for a net sum of 2.9 billion forints. However, SWIETELSKY Vasúttechnika Kft. challenged the decision, which they claimed was unlawful, because it had accepted Homlok Kft."s incompletely filled-in price justification (which MÁV had requested due to the low price). The Public Procurement Arbitration Committee ruled in favour of Vasúttechnika and annulled the contracting authority’s decision. MÁV subsequently declared the bid submitted by SWIETELSKY Vasúttechnika Kft. as the successful tender, which ranked second among the bidders in terms of value for money.
The company’s tender price was 3,975,599,337 forints net; apart from this criterion, it received the maximum number of points for all evaluation criteria, and the highest number of points for the price criterion.
SWIETELSKY Vasúttechnika Kft. also won the tender for the renovation works on the Kőbánya freight – Kőbánya-Kispest section, with a net tender price of 5,624,738,372 forints. In this procedure too, the company challenged the decision for the reasons mentioned above, and the adjudication committee ruled in its favour in this case as well – we learnt from the managing director. The decision was also published in the EKR.
They are also applying for funding for the modernisation of the line between Kiskunfélegyháza and Szeged-Rendező
As our newspaper has reported, a comprehensive modernisation project may be carried out on one of the most important railway lines in the Southern Great Plain region. The first call for tenders for the complete refurbishment of railway line No. 140, between Kiskunfélegyháza and Szeged-Rendező, was issued back in 2025 by KBM’s predecessor, Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium.
