One of Lidl’s largest European logistics centres has been handed over in Kiskunfélegyháza

Lidl Hungary’s new logistics centre has opened in Kiskunfélegyháza, the retail chain has announced. The general contracting work for the investment, worth nearly 60 billion forints, was carried out by Market Építő Zrt..

Covering an area of more than 83,000 square metres – equivalent to almost 12 football pitches – the facility is Lidl’s largest warehouse in Hungary to date, and also one of the largest logistics centres in the retail chain’s European network. The construction project provided employment for around 1,500 people.

The warehouse has the capacity to store nearly 50,000 pallets

This investment has resulted in the creation of Lidl’s fifth logistics centre in Hungary. The complex will in future supply 70 stores, and its operations are supported by state-of-the-art order-picking technology. The warehouse has a capacity of nearly 50,000 pallets. According to plans, an average of 4,600 pallets per day – containing around 400,000 cartons of picked goods – will be dispatched from the Kiskunfélegyháza centre. A total of 194 loading bays have been installed to handle the facility’s freight traffic.
The complex also houses a 24,000-square-metre refrigerated section, which has been fitted with environmentally friendly technology. The waste heat generated in the cold store is used to heat the floor.

Renewable energy sources have also been incorporated into the centre’s operations

Energy-efficient operation was a key consideration during the design and construction of the project. A state-of-the-art cooling, heating and heat-recovery ventilation system, LED lighting and water-saving fittings were installed in the hall.

As part of the project, electric charging points, a high-capacity cycle shelter and a 10,000-square-metre biodiverse green space were also created in the vicinity of the centre.

Market has completed the construction of several stores and a second logistics centre on behalf of Lidl

The development has created more than 400 new jobs in the Kiskunfélegyháza area, bringing the total number of Lidl employees in Hungary to 10,500. Lidl opened its first logistics centre and its first 12 stores in Hungary in 2004.
Market Építő Zrt. has already constructed several Lidl stores, as well as the retail chain’s logistics centre in Ecser, which was completed at the end of 2021. The Kiskunfélegyháza complex, which has now been handed over, its foundation stone was laid in September 2024.
