What is being built?
From the town centre to the spa – a cycle path over three kilometres long is being built in Kiskunmajsa
A new footpath and cycle path is to be built in Kiskunmajsa along Road No. 5402, between the spa and Deák Ferenc Street – according to the public procurement notice. In the first part of the tender was won by the Kiskunmajsa-based Bács-Bau System Építőipari és Kereskedelmi Kft., out of four bidders, with a bid of 361.019 million forints net. The project will be implemented with funding from the TOP Plusz programme. The other part of the tender concerned the installation of solar-powered street lighting. The combined net value of the two contracts exceeds 418.3 million forints.
The existing cycle path is to be dismantled
As part of the project, a footpath and cycle path totalling 3,357.09 metres in length will be constructed on the left-hand side of Road 5402, as per the road alignment. The existing cycle path in the area will first be demolished, and then a new cycle path will be built.
The width of the new road surface will be 2.75 metres from the starting point to the 3+116.76 kilometre mark, and 3.75 metres on the section from there to the end point. The road surface will be supported on both sides by kerbs, alongside which a half-metre-wide verge will be constructed.
The structure of the cycle path:
- a 2.5-centimetre-thick wearing course of AC 8 asphalt;
- a 3.5-centimetre-thick AC 11 asphalt binder course;
- a 5-centimetre levelling layer;
- made from a 15-centimetre-thick, 0/45-grade aggregate base;
- made of separating geotextile;
- and is constructed from compacted sub-base.
A rest area will also be created
A rest area for cyclists and pedestrians will be built as part of the footpath and cycle path. According to the tender specifications, the project involves planting 132 new trees, 5,244 shrubs and 110 woody plants. An automatic drip irrigation system comprising six irrigation stations and eight irrigation zones will be installed to maintain them.
Both the water and telecommunications networks will be replaced
Utility relocations must also be carried out along the road construction route. The water mains will be rebuilt along one section, where three gate valves will be installed. As for the telecommunications infrastructure, the existing 1×12 cable will be replaced with a 2×12 cable. During the works, a total of 4,710 metres of fibre-optic cable will be laid, and 292 fibre-optic cable splices will be made.
Solar-powered lamps light up the route
In the second phase of the public procurement process, the local authority awarded a contract for the installation of 158 LED luminaires fitted with their own rechargeable batteries. The solar-powered street lamps, with a light point height of 4.8 metres, are to be installed by ILST-Hungary Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató Kft. for a net price of 57.359 million forints.
The development will create a modern cycle route between Kiskunmajsa’s spa and its town centre, whilst the surroundings of the revitalised route will become tidier, greener and more accessible.
