This will cut journey time by six minutes, and the speed limit will be lifted over a stretch of nearly 5 kilometres.

A 10-day track closure is currently restricting rail services on the Hatvan–Szolnok line. As we previously reported, maintenance work is being carried out by MÁV specialists; in the second phase of the works, they are continuing to remove speed restrictions between Jászberény and Újszász. Work will take place between Hatvan and Jászberény from 9 to 15 October, and between Jászberény and Újszász from 16 to 18 October.

Regarding the maintenance work being carried out as part of the nationwide programme to eliminate speed bumps, launched this summer Dávid Vitézy, Minister for Transport and Investment post. According to this, on the affected section

  • Track maintenance is being carried out over a distance of more than 13 kilometres,
  • the track geometry of more than 30 station points is being restored,
  • around 320 sleeper beams are being replaced
  • and 320 tonnes of crushed stone are used.

In addition to the above, in Jászberény a switch is being replaced, whilst between Pusztamonostor and Jászberény, a complete track renewal is being carried out over a 40-metre stretch. Furthermore, between Jászberény and Meggyespele, a level crossing with light signals is being rebuilt and trees posing a hazard to rail traffic are also being removed.

As a result of the works, speed limits will be lifted over a stretch of nearly 5 kilometres, which is expected to add a total of 6 minutes to journey times.

This not only means faster travel, but also improves timetable reliability and reduces the risk of breakdowns.

From 19 October, train services will resume along the entire line, although a revised timetable will remain in force until 3 November due to renovation work on the Budapest–Cegléd railway line. The detailed track closure timetable can be found at MÁVPluszon or Mávinform is also available on its online platforms.
