The town centre on the banks of the Tisza is being regenerated

Tiszacsege, also known as the gateway to Hortobágy, is set to undergo significant development. According to public procurement data, the town’s central areas are set to be revitalised. New green spaces, car parks, cobbled pavements and a children’s playground are to be built, whilst pedestrian areas will be upgraded at several locations across the town and cycling infrastructure will also be developed.

The contract for the project, which is being carried out with funding from the EU’s TOP Plusz programme, was awarded to TERRA SPED Kft. for a sum of 153,578,665 forints.

The area around the mayor’s office and the library is being refurbished

One of the key areas of the development is the vicinity of the town hall and the library. As part of the project, new green spaces will be created across an area of 2,133 square metres, and existing green spaces will be refurbished. Twenty-one deciduous trees will be planted around the car parks; however, four trees will need to be felled to make way for the construction of access roads.

New bicycle racks are to be installed in front of the office, whilst pedestrian traffic will be facilitated by a new 537-square-metre paving system.

40 new parking spaces are being created in the area, two of which will be accessible, situated close to the entrance to the office. The parking spaces and the associated access routes will also be paved with paving stones.

Twelve street benches, one smart bench and four litter bins will be installed in the public space; furthermore, two existing buildings will be demolished to make way for the car park.

A new playground in the town centre

Another striking feature of the development will be the playground . A 174-square-metre playground is to be built next to the service building, featuring a sand surface and monolithic reinforced concrete block foundations to secure the play equipment.

Next to the playground, an 87-metre-long pavement paved with paving stones is being constructed. The area behind it, also paved with paving stones, will feature three benches, a litter bin and a smart bench.

As part of the landscaping work, green spaces totalling 420 square metres are being restored. In the areas currently covered with crushed stone, the crushed stone will be removed and a layer of brown sand topsoil will be laid.

The lighting of the public space is provided by two solar-powered LED lamps, as well as a further 19 solar-powered LED lamps along the planned pavements.

Another new landmark in the town centre will be the giant-letter installation bearing the inscription „TISZACSEGE”, which is to be erected at the junction of Fő utca and Iskola utca and will stand 1.2 metres tall.

Several kilometres of footpaths are being refurbished

The project does not merely involve the redevelopment of a central area. It also includes the refurbishment of existing pavements and the installation of new cycling infrastructure at various locations throughout the town.

The works will affect, amongst other areas, the section of pavement in front of the mayor’s office as far as Fő Street, then the section in front of the property with cadastral number 618, as well as the pavement in front of the plot with cadastral number 135/2 on Kossuth Street and the section of Fő Street extending to the junction with Erdészeti Street. The pavement on the Fő utca side of plot number 776 will be resurfaced as far as the junction with Iskola utca, and work will also be carried out on Iskola utca itself.

According to the tender specifications, the existing pavements were damaged, cracked or had frozen in several places, making their refurbishment necessary. The pavement refurbishments and the construction of the cycle path involve a total of 4,253 square metres of paving stones, covering a section approximately 1,754 metres long. In addition, 175 square metres of asphalt surfacing, over a length of 50 metres, is also being renewed on Fő Street.

As part of the transport improvements, 16 cycle racks and 11 street benches will be installed, and there are plans to plant 184 deciduous trees.
