Road resurfacing work is set to begin on nearly half of Etyek’s streets

The entire road network within Etyek’s built-up area is approximately 40–50 kilometres long and comprises a total of more than 70 streets within the built-up area. In light of this, it is particularly striking that public procurement procedure announced by Etyek local authority is particularly striking, as in its call for tenders for inner-town roads under the TOP Plusz programme, it is seeking a contractor to carry out works at 27 locations.

Applications for the project are being accepted until 22 September; the project covers roads ranging from 2.4 to 5.5 metres in width, with a total length of almost 4 kilometres.

The works include the laying of the wearing course and levelling course, the construction of the FZKA base course, the construction of the reinforced kerb, the wedge-shaped cutting alongside the raised kerbs, as well as the complete or partial replacement of the road structure on several sections.

The winner will have to work with virtually no staging area

With the exception of Pipacs Street, the streets affected by the renovation are extremely narrow – mostly only 2.5–3.5 metres wide – yet they handle two-way traffic with minimal room to manoeuvre. For this reason, the construction works and the more extensive excavation of the road structure will inevitably disrupt the usual traffic flow, which requires the contractor to carry out the work in an exceptionally disciplined and well-organised manner.

Due to the needs of local residents, the need to access institutions (schools, nurseries, workplaces) in the mornings and evenings, weekly scheduled waste collection, and the town’s regular gastronomic and cultural events, work is subject to strict conditions. The local authority can provide only a single staging area for the storage of machinery and materials, and work can only take place at a maximum of three sites at any one time in the narrow streets. In order to ensure full compliance with these strict organisational requirements, the works are planned to be carried out by a single successful contractor.
