A first-hand look at a career in engineering – Duna Group Szabadegyetem is back
In recent years, it has become a tradition for university students to take over the world of Duna Group for a few days. The aim of the Free University remains unchanged: to provide students, alongside their university education, with first-hand industry experience from which they can gain career insights, professional contacts and inspiration.
In 2026, the three-day, free event will be held for the seventh time. Among others, students from BME, Széchenyi István Egyetem, Óbudai Egyetem Ybl Miklós Építéstudományi Kar, Soproni Egyetem, as well as other higher education institutions in Hungary and beyond its borders, are welcome to attend between 24 and 26 September – registration is now open.
Those invited will include students of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geodesy, surveying, building services engineering and economics, from both BSc and MSc programmes.
The Mohácsi Duna-híd takes centre stage
The central theme of this year’s event will be one of Hungary’s most significant current infrastructure development projects, the Mohácsi Duna-híd. Students will be able to tour the site, giving them a first-hand insight into the engineering, technological and organisational challenges involved in implementing a project of this scale today.
The programme also focuses on the high-tech aspects of modern infrastructure development. Young people will be introduced to the technologies and engineering solutions that are increasingly shaping this field today.
Another key theme this year will be the international presence of Duna Group. Experts from the group of companies will draw on their own experiences and projects to demonstrate the opportunities currently available to Hungarian engineers in the international construction industry.
They come across not only technologies but also engineers
Once again, one of the key elements of the three-day event will be the opportunity to build personal connections. Participants will be able to talk to the lead engineers and specialists from Duna Group in a more informal setting about professional career paths, further study, career opportunities and the future of the construction industry.
„With the Open University, we aim to demonstrate every year that infrastructure construction involves far more than what we see from the outside. It brings together a tremendous feat of engineering, high-tech technologies and an astonishingly wide variety of career paths. This year, through Mohácsi Duna-hídon, we are able to showcase all of this to students via a project which, in itself, is a celebration of infrastructure engineering” – said Péter Kincses, organiser of Duna Group Szabadegyetem.
He added that one of the event’s greatest assets is the student community that has developed over the years and the direct links with leading engineers in the field.
„We don’t want to give young people ready-made answers about which direction to take. Instead, we want to show them just how vast the world is before them. They can talk to engineers who are currently working on major infrastructure projects in Hungary and the wider region, build relationships with one another, and, we hope, find inspiration for how to continue their studies and, later, their careers.”
Duna Group Szabadegyetem will once again bring together the current and next generation of infrastructure construction for three days from 24 to 26 September – now in its seventh year.
Participation is free of charge for students, and you can register via the link below: https://www.duna.group/dunagroup-szabadegyetem/
