From 2.00 pm, the new section of road will be opened to traffic and vehicles will be able to use it.

The M49 expressway, the 28.2-kilometre section between the M3 motorway and Ököritófülpös, has been completed by Duna Aszfalt Építő Zrt.. A press conference was held on 27 October by Dávid Vitézy, Minister for Transport and Investment, to mark the partial handover.

The project, which was funded entirely from state resources, cost 138 billion forints

As part of the project, alongside the 2×2-lane section of road, four grade-separated junctions and five roundabouts were completed, along with 22 engineering structures; rest areas were also created, and the 3.3-kilometre Győrtelek bypass was built.

The development of the M49 expressway is an important milestone in improving transport links in the region and in establishing a fast transport link between the M3 motorway and the Romanian border.

Road development does not end here; construction is set to continue, with the aim of extending the motorway to the border and connecting Szatmárnémeti to the European motorway network. In the second phase, construction will continue for a further 17.5 km between Ököritófülpös and the Hungarian–Romanian border.

The motorway will reach the border and, after connecting to the Romanian road network, is expected to be completed in the summer of 2029, the minister said.
