Planning has begun: the Hírös Modul project, involving the redevelopment of Hunyadi Street in Abony, could make life easier for nearly 500 local residents.

Hunyadi Street is one of the most important thoroughfares in Abony’s day-to-day transport network and local economic life; it serves as a continuation of, and link to, Ceglédi Road, leading towards the town centre and Kossuth Square.

This is a major bus route, used not only by local services but also by buses on the Cegléd–Abony–Szolnok route; and as it provides a direct link between the town’s public institutions, as well as to the railway station and the town centre, it is one of the busiest sections for local cycle traffic.

Hunyadi Street is to be modernised along its entire length

A non-repayable grant totalling 100 million forints, with grant code 100%, is to be awarded to the town for the complete refurbishment of the road, which is now in a state of disrepair – according to a press release from the town of Abony. As part of the project, Hunyadi János Street will undergo a complete modernisation: the contract, awarded to Hírös Modul Kft. of Kecskemét, involves planning the reconstruction of the street, which is approximately 750 metres long and 6 metres wide on average.

Experts will ensure the road’s durability by milling the existing asphalt surface and locally reinforcing the road sub-base, whilst particular attention will also be paid to improving rainwater drainage. To improve road safety, new traffic control elements, modern signage and fresh road markings will be installed, whilst accessible crossings will be created for pedestrians.

The refurbishment is also forward-looking from an environmental perspective: planting a new row of trees along the road and landscaping the green belts will create a more pleasant streetscape.

According to the plans, the modernisation work will continue until February 2028; it will not only transform the overall appearance of the street, but will also directly improve the everyday living conditions of more than 520 residents and facilitate their comfortable and safe journeys to work. In addition, it will create more favourable economic and logistical conditions for around 20 local businesses.
