A major US investment is boosting energy investment in Romania
In Hungary, renewable energy is a hot topic due to the wind farm developments set to begin shortly: according to press reports, the government aims to increase the country’s current capacity more than tenfold to around 4,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030. According to an article on profit.pro, green developments on a similar scale may be launched in our eastern neighbour: the US-based Blackstone fund, one of the world’s largest asset managers, is investing 2 billion euros in the Danish renewable energy project developer Eurowind Energy, which will subsequently become even more active in Romania.
The financing agreement is expected to be finalised this year, following the European Commission’s approval of the transaction. The investment by Blackstone will accelerate Eurowind’s renewable energy developments at a time when energy demand is growing rapidly in Europe, the Romanian newspaper points out.
These projects can now get underway
The article also reveals the expected developments; according to it, Eurowind Energy Romania, as a local subsidiary of Eurowind Energy, has been granted licences for seven renewable energy projects in the fields of wind power, solar power and energy storage:
- A 900 MW wind farm in Albești (Constanța County)
- A 49 MW solar power station in Mănești (Prahova County)
- An 1,188 MW wind farm in Botoșani County
- A 49.6 MW wind farm in Stăncuța (Brăila County)
- A 49.6 MW wind farm in Liești (Galați County)
- A 49.6 MW wind farm in Slobozia Conachi (Galati County)
- A 21.6 MW wind farm in Pechea (Galati County)
In addition to all this, the company had already launched three new wind farm projects last month: the power stations at the Frumușița, Vector and Pecineaga NordEst sites will together supply 138 MW of power to the grid.
Eurowind Energy Romania, which has been operating in Romania since 2011, currently runs four operational solar parks in the towns of Hălchiu, Măgurele, Pufești and Teiuș.
