Perhaps the world's most elegant McDonald's restaurant opens in Budapest

The country's first "Mekije", rebuilt by Market, has opened with a unique interior design, also on a global scale.

Hungary's first McDonald's restaurant on Régi Posta Street has been renovated in almost every aspect. To mark the 35th anniversary of the brand's presence in Hungary, the renovation used high-quality interior design materials typically found in exclusive restaurants, according to Market Építő Zrt. during the construction, which took only four months and cost nearly one billion forints.

Luxury fast-food restaurant born

According to a statement sent to our newspaper, the revamp of McDonald's iconic restaurant goes beyond the usual renovations of other McDonald's outlets: it reopened its doors last Saturday in an exclusive new design, using real natural elements.

The interior is dominated by black and gold colours, which add elegance and luxury to the space.

The interior walls of the restaurant are made of real concrete. The construction and placement of the concrete slabs, weighing up to 300 kg, was a major professional challenge during the renovation. In addition, the floor and walls of the McCafé area of the restaurant were covered with natural wood panels, while the rest of the restaurant's dining area was covered with cast, meticulously finished and polished terrazzo.

The interior, a collaboration between Australian design studio Landini and Hungarian interior designer Géza Sass Sass, echoes the elegant stone exterior of the restaurant, with tables made not only of real wood but also of granite, as well as the side walls of the service counter. The exclusive look also extended to the lampshades, which were made of copper. This use of materials is completely unique in the world of 'Meki', even by international standards. Copper as a basic material is also used in the inlays of the suspended ceiling and the pillar cladding.

Adapted to the spirit of the place

The restaurant is also adorned with a special wall graphic designed by a team of Hungarian graphic designers: the Graphasel Design Studio depicts Budapest landmarks opposite Régi Posta Street. On the corner of Régi Posta and Aranykéz Street, the restaurant has a unique, distinctive overlay that can only be found in one or two McDonald's in the world. This special design element further enhances the unique atmosphere that the establishment offers.

"We are dedicating the new restaurant to our loyal customers to celebrate the 35th anniversary of McDonald's in Hungary. The two pillars of our strategy, launched in 2019, are to open new restaurants and modernize existing restaurants under the concept of "Experience of the Future". One culmination of this work is the rebirth of our first restaurant in Hungary, where we have combined a digitally-enhanced guest experience with quality interior design elements. "" said Zsolt Égi, managing director of Progress Restaurant Network Kft., which operates McDonald's restaurants in Hungary, stressing its importance in the company's growth strategy.
