The bridge spanning the river on the Croatian-Hungarian border was built by our southern neighbours based on Hungarian designs; Magyar Közút is now looking for a designer to carry out its renovation.

In an interview with our interview with our newspaper, Dávid Vitézy, Minister for Transport and Investment, identified the renovation of both single- and double-digit main roads and bridges as a priority. According to the latest data from TED, this focus may be reinforced by the preparations for the renovation of the road Dráva Bridge , which will need to be carried out up to the detailed design stage.

The bridge, situated on the southern outskirts of Barcs, carries traffic from Main Road 6 across the Drava. Built on the site of the crossing that was blown up during the Second World War – based on Hungarian designs and constructed by Yugoslav contractors – the new bridge was opened to traffic in 1969.

Based on the details of the public procurement tender issued by Magyar Közút for the 281-metre-long border bridge, the following, amongst other things,

  • the refurbishment of the corrosion protection on the steel structure,
  • the restoration of the corbels and piers,
  • levelling the track slab,
  • complete insulation and replacement of the cladding,
  • complete replacement of the pavement,
  • and the bridge’s entire internal and external lighting system must be replaced.
