The KBM call for entries is aimed at the cream of the crop of Hungarian architecture
In 2023, Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium declared Károly Kós’s birthday to be Hungarian Architecture Day: since then, every year on 16 December, outstanding professionals in Hungarian architecture have been honoured in tribute to the Transylvanian architect, writer and polymath. The Közlekedési és Beruházási Minisztérium is also continuing this tradition and is therefore now encouraging the architectural profession to put forward nominations.
The focus is on landscape architecture, the preservation of tradition and contemporary architecture alike
According to the announcement by KBM, candidates may be nominated for several prestigious architectural awards during the application period, which runs until 2 October:
- the Kós Károly-életműdíj,
- the Ybl Miklós-díj,
- Mőcsényi Mihály-díj,
- the Pro Architektura Award,
- For the Protection of Historic Monuments – Forster Gyula-díj,
- For Archaeological Heritage – Schönvisner István-díj
Entries are received, assessed and ranked by a panel of expert judges.
They emphasise that architectural awards recognise the work of professionals who, through their outstanding achievements, contribute to the development of Hungarian architecture, the quality of our built environment and the preservation of our heritage.
The awards recognise outstanding creative bodies of work, landscape architecture, the preservation of traditions and the creation of contemporary architectural value. The awards in the field of cultural heritage conservation recognise the work of professionals who have made significant contributions to the preservation of historic monuments and archaeology.
