Experts are working on a 28-kilometre section of the Miskolc–Hidasnémeti vasútvonalon

To ensure the reliability of rail services and to remove speed restrictions, between 9 and 22 September, specialists from MÁV will be carrying out maintenance work on the Miskolc–Hidasnémeti vasútvonalon. The work will be carried out whilst the line is closed, so MÁV buses will transport passengers between the county town of Borsod and Hidasnémeti. The Hernád IC services will only run between Budapest and Miskolc, whilst IC replacement buses will provide transport between Miskolc and Košice.

Heavy railway machinery in action

Over the coming period, track maintenance work will be carried out over a total distance of 28 kilometres from Felsőzsolca towards Hidasnémeti. The works will also affect the second track at Onga station.
During the track realignment, railway machinery will be used to restore the track to its prescribed geometric alignment, correct any errors in the height and alignment of the rails, and compact the crushed stone ballast of the track bed.
Another significant aspect of the maintenance work is the replacement of approximately 1,200 metres of track between Novajidrány and Hidasnémeti stations.

Slow-moving vehicles are being charged

As a result of these measures, several 60 and 80 kilometres per hour speed restrictions will be lifted. According to the MÁV, this could reduce journey times by several minutes, make train services more predictable, and improve timetable reliability on the Miskolc–Hidasnémeti vasútvonalon line.
Dávid Vitézy, Minister for Transport and Investment, highlighted on his social media page that maintaining the quality of the railway track requires not only major developments but also the regular carrying out of minor track maintenance work.
