Greening up Tatabánya - landscaping completed the development of the city centre

The large-scale development project to refresh the image of Tatbánya's city centre has been completed with the renovation of Béke Park and the redevelopment of the area surrounding the Városkapu Service and Business Centre. The project, which began in 2017, was carried out in three phases, under contract number WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft. (WHB).

Part of the HUF 4.5 billion investment was implemented with the support of the European Union under the Széchenyi 2020 programme, with the remaining amount being provided by the city of the county from its own resources. Thanks to this, an underground car park was built, the green areas of the Dózsakert district and the City Centre were renewed, and a community space for events was created in front of the County Hall.

The most recent project was the renovation of Peace Park and the landscaping of the City Gate Service and Business Centre.

The development has increased the visual and aesthetic value of the area and the quality of the green space. Pedestrian access in the right direction and quality has been ensured, and sections of pavement have been renewed. The former pedestrian walkways have been revitalised and new ones have been created. The areas in front of, next to and behind the building have also been improved. New street furniture has been installed, modern, energy-efficient street lighting has been installed and an irrigation system has been set up in the area.

In order to make the city centre greener and more liveable, special emphasis was placed on the development of green spaces, with 22 trees and 5,500 shrubs, 1,600 perennials and almost 3,000 annual plants planted.

At the closing event of the project, János Bencsik, Member of Parliament and Ministerial Commissioner, highlighted the renewal of green spaces and safer pedestrian and cyclists' traffic, while Ilona Posztovics Szűcsné, Mayor of Tatabánya, presented the whole project. A tree planting ceremony followed.

As previously reported, the first two phases of the development were also completed by WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU.

• The 12,000 square metre, 125-space car park on the old street level of the County Hall Square has been replaced by a two-level, 279-space underground car park, which will significantly alleviate the parking constraints of the county seat.
• A new event and community space was then created above the underground car park, with green islands, street furniture, drinking fountains and fountains.

The large-scale project, carried out by West Hungária Bau Kft., has implemented one of the most significant image transformations in the city's history.
