They would not only modernise the debreceni Nagyállomást, but also develop it into a modern transport hub

Minister Dávid Vitézy announced on his social media page that a feasibility study (Közlekedési és Beruházási Minisztérium) is being commissioned for the regeneration of debreceni Nagyállomás and its surroundings. The study goes beyond the renovation of the station building: it involves a comprehensive rethinking of the entire area, taking into account passengers’ needs and Debrecen’s future urban structure.

Transport networks can be integrated into a single system

One of the central questions of the study is how to develop a modern transport hub in which rail, tram and bus services, together with P+R facilities to facilitate car transfers and B+R facilities designed for cyclists, form an integrated system.
During the preparatory phase, the potential integration of a tram-train service will be examined, as well as transport links to the airport and the city’s new economic zones. In addition, an assessment will be carried out to determine what community, commercial and service functions would be required at the station, and how the development can be integrated into Debrecen’s long-term urban development plans.

Planning may follow the study

The preparation of the feasibility study is the first step in preparing for the investment. Only then can the design phase begin, and once the final plans are in place, the public procurement tender for the construction work can be issued. Construction can only begin once these stages have been completed.
The development of debreceni Nagyállomás is a key component of Baross Gábor Vasútfejlesztési Terv. In addition to the procurement of new railway carriages, the programme also includes the modernisation of tracks, the refurbishment of stations and the improvement of the competitiveness of public transport.
