The American-Singaporean company's 10,000-square-metre factory was built by KÉSZ Csoport in Zalaegerszeg.

On Tuesday, the new-generation 10,000-square-metre factory of American-Singaporean company Flex, built with an investment of approximately 35 billion forints, was handed over in Zalaegerszeg. The factory is part of the general construction project of KÉSZ Csoport member, KÉSZ Építő és Szerelő Zrt. The construction was carried out with the participation of several subcontractors and strategic partners of the group.

We previously wrote about the project here about the project, which involved the construction of a 10,000 square metre building with an 8,000 square metre high-cleanliness production hall inside. The foundation stone of the factory was laid in August 2024.

210 new jobs were created

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár also attended the event. In his speech, the Prime Minister said that the HUF 35 billion investment would provide 210 people with high-value-added, future-proof jobs that meet high-tech industrial standards and also involve research and development.

He added that the next gen mobility factory unit will be built here in Zalaegerszeg, which will specifically help find solutions to the most important challenges facing the automotive industry.

He said,

Zala will supply Europe with automotive, IT and battery platforms and „all kinds of electronic devices that mere mortals don't even know exist”.

He stated that the Hungarian government contributed 7.8 billion forints in support of this.

The largest domestic factory for the Flex has been completed

At the launch of the Flex Zala Automotive Next Gen, Jean-Francois Zoeller, Senior Vice President of European and Global Automotive Operations at Flex, said: They have more than 35 factories and 30,000 employees in Europe, and are continuously developing their presence in Hungary, which is a pillar of their European operations. The company employs 7,000 people in seven Hungarian plants in the areas of manufacturing, logistics and research and development.

Using the latest manufacturing technologies, they produce components for more than 600 platforms from over 100 car brands, including electric and hybrid vehicles. The essence of the latest technologies is that software can be updated remotely, as these are now the defining factors in the automotive industry, emphasised the senior vice president.

Andreas Heim, Vice President of European Business Development at Flex, discussed how

Their facility in Zalaegerszeg is currently their largest manufacturing unit in Hungary.

The country has long played an important role in the company's European automotive strategy, but competition is fierce, innovation is increasingly important, and the customer experience is the primary consideration, he added.

As he said, there is a huge change in the automotive industry, with speed and resilience both being paramount as part of the transition, and the coronavirus pandemic, which has had a shock effect on the sector, has highlighted the need for new ways of operating. Accordingly,

A fully automated production line has already been built in Zalaegerszeg.

Brake systems, steering control electronics, computers for self-driving cars

Ágota Péter, Vice President of European Automotive Operations at Flex, explained that the

The Zala factory has progressed from simple lamp panels to the manufacture of brake systems, steering control electronics, complex battery control systems and computers for self-driving cars, with a significant proportion of its products being designed in-house by Zala engineers.

Built next to ZalaZONE

The new factory unit built next to the automotive test track uses unique technology to manufacture high-voltage power converters for electric cars. Their production lines have enough orders for the next 5-7 years, raising annual sales to $220 million, the vice president pointed out.

Zoltán Balaicz, Mayor of Zalaegerszeg (Fidesz-KDNP), recalled that Flex arrived in Zalaegerszeg in 1994. Thanks to continuous development, it is currently the city's largest employer and taxpayer, but thanks to their excellent cooperation, the company also plays a significant role in society in the areas of education, culture and healthcare.
