Work continues on the Tokaj Marina project on the banks of the Bodrog. In the latest phase of the development, which began in 2022, a 100-space car park is being built near Tokaj’s revitalised historic town centre. In subsequent phases of the project, the facilities will be expanded to include catering and marina services, as well as a water sports centre.

Viadukt Mérnöki és Kereskedelmi Szolgáltató Kft. has been awarded the contract following a public procurement procedure to build a 100-space Marina car park near Tokaj town centre. The modern car park and rest area will be developed on behalf of Waldzell Kft.. The road link connecting to the existing main road will be widened, and a pay-and-display parking system with barriers will be installed.

Development of a waterfront community and tourist hub: the long-term plan

Two twin charging points will be installed in the car park, which will be capable of charging four electric vehicles simultaneously. The works also include the installation of public lighting in the car park, as well as the provision of power supply for service and design elements.
In addition to creating civilised and safe parking conditions, the development also paves the way for further phases of the project. Future plans include the creation of a water sports centre on the banks of the Bodrog, where a passenger boat harbour and boat hire facilities (kayaks, canoes, SUP, rowing boats) would be available to locals and tourists seeking active recreation. Further plans also include creating the necessary conditions for the operation of catering services. In addition to street food, guests will be welcomed with Tokaj wines.

Hellowood light funnels define the look of the rest area

The current phase of the development project involves the construction of a car park, as well as a waiting and rest area. The main visual features of these will be the „light funnels” designed by Hellowood, constructed from a glued-laminated timber framework and arranged in an openwork composition.
In a subsequent development phase, sales, toilet and catering containers, fitted with designer cladding and mounted on ground screws, will be installed in the vicinity of the light attraction.

Preparations are also underway for coastal defences

One of the key technical aspects of the project is protecting the car park against erosion. In those sections where the route of the Bodrog riverside promenade runs close to the outer boundary of the car park, plans are in place to construct an underground retaining wall.

Grass pavers and large-leaved trees make the area greener

The parking areas will be paved with concrete grass pavers, which, as well as being practical, allow for a greener surface. An irrigation system will also be installed to maintain this. In accordance with regulations, the landscaping will include tree planting: one tree must be planted for every six parking spaces. This means that at least 18 large-leaved trees – early maple and common birch – will be planted during the construction work.
The parking bays will be separated by 1.5-metre-wide green areas.
