Long sections of the road linking Gyomaendrőd and Szentes, as well as the access road serving the tourist destination at Királyrét, are also set to be upgraded.

Magyar Közút) Non-profit Zrt. in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin published in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin a conditional call for tenders for the renovation of routes in Békés and Pest counties.

A total of four different roads are involved, which may be renovated in several stages. Among the projects, the renovation of the Békés County link road is particularly significant, but plans also include the modernisation of the access road serving one of the Danube Bend’s popular tourist destinations.

The Gyomaendrőd–Szentes road is being resurfaced over a long stretch

Most of the improvements will affect the 4642-numbered road linking Gyomaendrőd, Nagyszénás and Szentes. The works, which are divided into several sections, will improve the condition of the road over a total distance of around 13 kilometres.

The plan is to repair the sunken sections of the road structure during the works, and then reinforce the road surface with new layers of asphalt. In addition, the verges will be stabilised, the bus stops will be modernised, and the roadside ditches and culverts will also be repaired.

During the renovation, the connecting access roads and side roads will also be brought up to the new road surface level, and traffic markings will be renewed along the entire stretch. The development is particularly important because this is one of the region’s key east–west transport routes, connecting several towns and intersecting the M44 expressway at right angles.

They can also work on a route popular with tourists

Another striking feature of the project is the development of the scenic route in the Danube Bend. Several shorter sections of the 12103 access road, which runs between Verőce, Szokolya and Királyrét, may also be upgraded.

This route leads to one of the most popular destinations in the Danube Bend: Királyrét is considered the gateway to the Börzsöny Mountains, from where numerous hiking trails and a forest railway set off.

The plans involve reinforcing the road surface during the works, widening the road where necessary, and improving drainage. Several bus stops will be rebuilt or modernised, and the maintenance of ditches and culverts is also part of the project.

Access roads are also being modernised in Pest County

The public procurement contract also covers two further access roads in Pest County. On the road leading to Domony, the road structure will be reinforced over a stretch of more than one kilometre, new bus bays will be constructed, and the drainage system will also be upgraded. According to the plans, a dedicated cycle lane may also be included on this section.

The access road leading to Tóalmás is also due for renovation, with work planned to repair the road surface over a stretch of more than one kilometre, widen the carriageway, and install accessible bus stops and a new pedestrian crossing.

The aim of these investments is to create safer and more convenient transport conditions in the region, whilst also improving transport links for both tourists and local residents.

The works would be carried out under the TOP Plusz programme; tenders are invited until 10 April 2026.
