From 3 January, trains will once again run on the section of track north of the capital.

Another phase of work has been completed on the country's busiest branch line. We last reported on this in mid-December reported on the modernisation work being carried out on the Vác–Balassagyarmat railway line, number 75, MÁV. Zsolt Hegyi, CEO of the MÁV group, recently published another photo report Facebook page. He reported:

From Saturday, 3 January, train services will resume as scheduled between Vác and Diósjenő.

Testing will continue on the track until Friday.

Zsolt Hegyi explained that a significant portion of the work on the Vác–Diósjenő section had already been completed before Christmas. Subsequently, the track and safety equipment were checked using a measuring train, and test operations are currently underway until Friday: the renovated section is being inspected using a Bz motor train consisting of several carriages, without passengers.

The purpose of test runs is to verify that the line is safe and reliable in all respects at the authorised track speed.

As is well known, in September 2025, a Bz-type motor train derailed on the line at Magyarkút, and experts decided not only to repair the accident site, but also to carry out comprehensive work on the branch line.
