Samsung SDI's €22.5 billion investment in the metropolitan agglomeration handed over

The Samsung SDI has handed over one of the largest ever research and development investments in Hungary, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó at the handover ceremony in Gödö. The South Korean company's new project, worth around 22.5 billion forints, is aimed at improving battery production processes. The state has provided HUF 5.5 billion in funding for the investment, which, according to the Minister, will also contribute to the creation of a number of high value-added jobs requiring serious engineering skills.

At the inauguration ceremony, Péter Szijjártó stressed that the investment will further increase the capacity and safety of electric batteries, while improving the economy and sustainability of production. The Samsung SDI has been present in Hungary since 2018. Óbuda University and Budapest University of Technology have been involved in the newly inaugurated project. The South Korean company has five global research and development centres, one of which is located in the southern part of the Danube Bend.

Significant Southern investment presence in our country

South Korean companies are currently the fourth largest investor community in Hungary, the Minister said. He also added that the state has supported sixty-six large South Korean investments in the last ten years, which have been worth more than HUF 5,000 billion and created nearly 20,000 new jobs.
