What is being built?
Gyöngyös's defining building complex has been given a new lease of life
The Mátra wine production has been served for almost 120 years by the Gyöngyös Wine Palace, which you may have read about previously on our website. The complete renovation and expansion of the building has now been completed. The products of Cemix products and the work of the Modulimpex Kft. contractors.
Revived eclecticism – complemented by modern technologies
The striking, eclectic main building with its central risalit has been a defining feature of Gyöngyös's townscape since 1907. Although it has never lost its function – wine production and ageing – its condition has deteriorated significantly over the years.
The project was implemented on two plots of land:
- the new wing houses the technology and service areas,
- After complete renovation, the historic outbuilding once again became the centre for bottle and barrel ageing.
The two-storey new wing built on top of the barrel-vaulted cellar posed a serious engineering challenge, which was solved with a „hybrid” structure: the masonry structure of the lower level is reinforced with reinforced concrete pillars, while the upper level has a steel column and curtain wall design, with reinforced concrete slabs on both levels. In addition, a new reinforced concrete lift shaft was installed in the main building, which penetrates several vaults and slabs of different ages and load-bearing capacities.
Quality, vapour permeability and durability with the Cemix
The historic nature of the project required precise and durable building materials that would ensure the walls were breathable, sufficiently strong and aesthetically pleasing.
Cemix Kft. contributed to the investment with several materials, including:
- 1303 MM 3 with masonry mortar,
- 2012 Premium with manual base plaster,
- 2021 MP 501 I with manual and machine base plaster,
- 5212 and 5232 Estrich ZE20/ZE30 screeds,
- 4460 Gletti Extra with lime plaster, outstanding vapour permeability, and
- 2032 Sockelputz cement plaster for high-stress plinths.
The project manager of Cemix, Bálint Szkibó, emphasised:
„Thanks to our high-quality manufacturing and many years of experience, we are able to provide our customers with reliable, excellent-quality products. The Borpalota project did not have any special technical requirements, but the contractors received all the support they needed from our expert colleagues.”
Challenges and solutions in implementation
One of the biggest organisational challenges of the project was to ensure that the winery could continue to operate throughout the entire construction period. Olivér Kameniczki, managing director of Modulimpex, put it this way:
„This posed a serious organisational challenge, as work processes had to be coordinated in such a way that production could continue uninterrupted.”
In addition to restoring the historic façade, constructing a new curtain wall wing and modernising the cellar system, the entire external utility network was renewed and the inner courtyard was given a new look in accordance with the landscape architecture plans.
By the end of the project, all external and internal work processes had been completed:
- wooden and aluminium doors and windows were installed,
- The plasterwork, floor layers and plasterboard structures have been completed.,
- modern mechanical and electrical systems were installed.
Modulimpex is particularly proud of the high-quality reconstruction of the façade to its original condition and the impressive appearance of the new hybrid-structure wing.
Fruitful cooperation, a new chapter in the life of Borpalota
The parties involved in the project unanimously agreed that the joint effort was smooth, professionally outstanding and exemplary.
According to Cemix, participation is „highly prestigious, as it demonstrates the company's professional reliability and the competitiveness of its products.”
Modulimpex emphasised that, thanks to the efficient work of the project management team, deadlines and quality requirements were met in full.
