The expansion of the M1 motorway involves the modernisation of a total of 11 junctions. Two new roundabouts will be built at Óbarok, and the existing bridge will be demolished once the new flyover has been opened to traffic.

The expansion of the M1 motorway is continuing with the reconstruction of the Óbarok junction – as reported on its social media page by MKIF Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt.. Work began in September 2025 on the the M1 expansion on the main carriageway, between the M0 and the Concó (Bábolna area) service area. As part of this large-scale project, a total of 11 junctions will be modernised along the affected section. Over a distance of approximately 78 kilometres, the motorway will be widened to 2×3 lanes, with one intelligent hard shoulder on each side that can be used as a full-fledged traffic lane, to ensure greater capacity and safety.

Two roundabouts are to be built at the Óbarok junction

Two new roundabouts are being built at Óbarok, and a new bridge is also being constructed over the motorway. Traffic will be diverted onto the completed bridge, after which the old bridge currently in use will be demolished.

According to information from MKIF, earthworks and utility installation work are currently being carried out in the area. At the same time, further construction work relating to the service station is also underway. The modernisation of the junction, in line with the capacity expansion of the M1, will improve entry and exit conditions and make local transport links safer and more transparent.

The project also includes the reconstruction or rebuilding of a total of 72 overpasses or underpasses

As part of the M1 motorway widening project, 72 overpasses or underpasses will need to be rebuilt or reconstructed, as the widened carriageway would not fit beneath the existing structures. In addition, 11 junctions will be modernised and four new junctions will be constructed. The project also includes the refurbishment of six service areas. According to the information provided, a 2×2 lane configuration will be maintained for road users throughout the entire duration of the M1 expansion works.
