Road building
More than a dozen roads to be resurfaced in the Storm Island municipality
The town near the Romanian border has won 300-300 million forints to modernise its roads, and one of the improvements has already been completed. The municipality, which has a population of 9 000, has upgraded nearly five kilometres of roads in the outskirts.
Five rural roads will be upgraded, mainly to help businesses and farmers
The HUF 300 million grant was matched by HUF 15 million of their own funds, which were used to renovate five peripheral roads - three dirt roads and two asphalt roads.
The stormwater drainage system was also restored as part of the project.
The work on the peripheral transport corridors involved reinforcing the existing asphalt road structure with crushed stone, laying a new wearing course and constructing half-metre and half-metre kerbs. These improvements will make everyday life easier for businesses, farms and agricultural workers in the countryside.
Nine roads in the city to be resurfaced
The other major project involves the paving of nine streets in the city centre, for 372 million forints. The works have received funding from the Operational Programme for Spatial and Urban Development Plus. Nine streets will be repaved, and they have been selected to cover all districts of Sarkad.
A total of 3,281 metres of roads will be reconstructed in the city: the Balassi, Csokonai, Dózsa György, Honvéd, Lehel, Sugár, Tokai, Tölgyfa and Veress Sándor streets.
