TRENECON Tanácsadó és Tervező Kft. and Kontúr Csoport Tervező Kft. won a conditional public procurement procedure for the complete reconstruction of twelve railway stations, including the one in Veszprém. The aim is to make the TEN-T railway stations in western Hungary suitable for dual civilian and military use.

The EU public procurement notices that the TRENECON Tanácsadó és Tervező Kft. and Kontúr Csoport Tervező Kft. can design the conversion of 12 railway stations in Transdanubia to support military mobility functions in addition to civilian traffic.

In the case of the latter, the feasibility study has already been completed.

Planning for new tracks and loading areas can begin

In addition to design, the two companies awarded the contract are also responsible for conducting the consultations and public utility consultations necessary for the preparation of the plans, as well as for obtaining the permits required/specified in the applicable laws, resolutions, regulations and directives. The project covered by the design includes the replacement of 34 track network turnouts, all of which will need to be connected to the safety equipment. In addition, it also includes the construction of 9,000 metres of track and 8,250 metres of overhead line network. Furthermore, the tasks also include the design of 15,000 square metres of paved storage area and 4 level crossings, as well as the preparation of an environmental impact study.

EU funds would be used to develop stations

The financial background of the project is provided by EU funds. The MÁV Zrt. application, submitted to the EU in January 2022 in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (which has since been dissolved) as a co-beneficiary, received a positive assessment. The EU grant agreement was signed on 27 September 2022. As the legal successor to the ministry, ÉKM issued a public procurement tender for the design. The tender is conditional; in order to secure the necessary funding, the government's decision and the amendment of the grant agreement must also be finalised after the announcement of the results of the public procurement procedure.
