Contractor selected for large-scale dormitory project at University of Szeged
It has been revealed which company will build the Öthalom Campus for the University of Szeged. The construction project will be carried out in the Science Park area as part of an extremely complex, multi-stage project. As the winning bidder, FERROÉP Zrt. will carry out the project for HUF 13.879 billion.
The seven-storey building will have a usable floor space of over 20,000 square metres.
The project begins with demolition
The new complex will be built with six lifts and a two-storey, high-ceilinged, multi-purpose gym. The dormitory building has 343 rooms, providing accommodation for a total of 706 people.
The announcement details the four main phases of the project. According to this, the first phase will involve the demolition of the existing old school building and the lightweight bicycle storage facility, along with landscaping. This will be followed by the construction of the new dormitory building in accordance with the existing implementation plan, with a boiler serving the entire area.
The remaining dormitory buildings are also supplied by the new boiler.
The demolition of the existing old boiler room must be completed at the start of construction, and a temporary solution will be built to heat and provide hot water to the prefabricated dormitory buildings remaining on the site.
Following the commissioning of the new dormitory building, the temporary heating and hot water supply will be discontinued, and the remaining dormitory buildings will eventually have to be connected to the new building's energy supply system.
The Science Park in Szeged is being built around the ELI ALPS laser research centre. Of the 85-hectare site, 20 hectares will be used by the university for educational and research purposes. One of these projects is the construction of the Öthalmi Campus Hall of Residence.
