Modernisation of Békéscsaba's important transport artery completed
The renovation of the Berényi út–Mezőmegyer connecting road in Békéscsaba has been completed. The work was finished ahead of schedule and to a high standard, as was emphasised at a press conference held on site on Monday. The project, which began in the first half of autumn, 2,300 metres have been modernised.
As András Cserkúti, the investor Magyar Közút Nzt. county director of the investor Magyar Közút Nzt., the renovation of Berényi Road took place between the bypass and the intersection of Szarvasi Road and Békési Road, covering a distance of approximately 2,300 metres. He explained:
The road surface was replaced locally, two layers of asphalt were laid, permanent road markings were painted, parallel parking spaces were created, and the bus bays were also renovated. He emphasised that a permanent technical solution had been implemented at the intersection of Szarvasi Road and Békési Road.
The technical handover and acceptance have been completed, so there are now no restrictions on traffic on Berényi Road, added András Cserkúti.
The investment was realised with gross state funding of HUF 577.8 million and affects the section between km 0+010 and km 2+313 of the route.
Renovation was also inevitable due to freight traffic.
Árpád Takács, Chief Magistrate of Békés County, revealed in his speech that more than 7,000 cars travel on the road north of Békéscsaba every day. The official referred to Berényi Road as the main artery of Békéscsaba, pointing out that this section connects the M44 motorway and the city centre. He emphasised that there are many businesses operating on Berényi Road, which means that not only passenger cars but also lorries use this road, which is why its renovation was essential.
