Within weeks, the regular traffic jams on Route 19 from Oradea to Margitta will come to an end
As stated on the official website of Bihar County: Horea Abrudan, Vice-President of the Bihar County Council, held an on-site press conference, where, together with representatives of the construction company Asfamixt – project manager Claudiu Costa and local authority representative Răzvan Ardelean – they presented the new development of the main transport corridor leading north from Oradea.
A 142-metre flyover will facilitate passage
The new junction is of key importance for the county’s infrastructure, as it is situated on one of the busiest routes: the road leads from Oradea to Margitta and Satu Mare from here.
„The new junction will significantly speed up traffic flow, particularly during peak hours. Once it is completed, the traffic jams that have been commonplace until now will virtually disappear,” said Horea Abrudan.
The total cost of the project, which is being carried out by the Bihar County Council in collaboration with the national road authority (CNAIR) and the Oradea city council, is 38,807,575.13 lei gross (approx. 2.6 billion forint). Funding was provided by the National Recovery and Resilience Programme (PNRR). The total length of the road section concerned is approximately 640 metres, whilst the flyover is 142 metres long; 34 piles were driven into the ground for its construction.
It’ll be ready in a couple of weeks
The substructures, embankments and structural elements of the flyover have all been completed. Furthermore, traffic has already been allowed to pass over the flyover on a temporary basis, so that the specialists can carry out the work on the roundabout more quickly.
„At present, safety barriers are being installed and, in several places, the contractors still have to complete the final paving work. Once the painting, the installation of road signs and the final sections of asphalting have been completed, we will be able to open the road fully to traffic,” said Claudiu Costa, project manager.
The location posed the main difficulty
„The only difficulty worth mentioning was the limited access area,” added Claudiu Costa, noting that another difficulty was linked to the relocation of the high-voltage power line. „In order to complete the work by the end of the month, we need to take the 110 kV power line running through here off the grid between 22 and 27 June. Once that’s done, we’ll be able to finish in June,” said Răzvan Ardelean, the site manager.
