Work on the Szászfenes–Cluj-Napoca section is now 92 per cent complete, and it could be opened to traffic in September.

Anyone who uses Main Road 1, which crosses Transylvania between Oradea and Cluj-Napoca, will recall how congested the sections near the latter city are: it is often only possible to proceed at a snail’s pace in the areas around Gyalu, Magyarlóna and Szászsebes. A key part of this zone is now coming to the fore: the main road is being widened to six lanes over a 3.5 km stretch between the emergency hospital currently under construction in Szászsebes and the Kálvária Bridge on the outskirts of Kolozsvár.

The 849-bed regional healthcare centre (Spital Regional de Urgenta Cluj) is being built as one of the country’s most modern healthcare facilities, serving 360,000 people, our newspaper has also reported on the details. At the other end of this section, the Kálvária Bridge (Pasajul-Calvaria) forms one of Cluj-Napoca’s most important junctions; it is the starting point, amongst other things, for the Kolozsmonostor transport corridor, which provides a bypass around the city centre.

Construction of the road in question is now 92 per cent complete, and the, according to an article on szabadsag.ro.

As part of the 3.5 km extension, a dedicated lane for public transport and emergency vehicles will be created, cycle paths will be built, and 154 parking spaces will be relocated; in addition, a roundabout will be constructed near the hospital.
