Berettyóújfalu is upgrading ten roads within the town

The Berettyóújfalu Local Authority has signed a contract with the Hajdúhadház-based company Terra Sped Kft. for the development of ten streets within the town – as revealed in the results notice published in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin results notice.
In the tender for the implementation of the EU-funded project entitled „Development of Urban Roads in Berettyóújfalu I”, Terra Sped Kft. submitted the bid offering the best value for money for all five lots. The contract has already been signed, and the work must be completed within six months of the handover of the site.

The new surfacing will be laid on the existing road bases

The project affects Akácos, Batthyány, Báthory, Bessenyei György, Eötvös, Nagy Sándor, Szabó Pál, Belsőmajor, Ladik and Csíkász streets. The contractor will construct a total of 3,375 metres of road, typically using the existing road bases.
On most of the roads, a 3-metre-wide carriageway will be laid, flanked on either side by a 1-metre-wide, mechanically stabilised verge.
On Batthyány Street, a 3.5-metre-wide carriageway will be constructed, whilst the section of Eötvös Street between Nagy Sándor Street and Madách Imre Street will feature a 5.5-metre-wide carriageway and raised kerbs on both sides.
During the works, a total of 764 cubic metres of asphalt and approximately 1,784 cubic metres of crushed stone will be laid. On several streets, the height of the connecting pavements will need to be adjusted, and a traffic-calming speed bump will be installed at the junction of Eötvös Street and Imre Madách Street.

More than 400 metres of mud-trapping surfacing is being laid

The project includes the construction of mud-trapping sections on unpaved roads connecting to the streets concerned. Their combined length exceeds 411 metres.
On Akácos Street, 606.66 metres of road surface and 156 metres of mud-trapping sections are being constructed. On Batthyány Street, a 663.99-metre section of road and nearly 80 metres of mud-trapping surface are being constructed, whilst on Báthory Street, work is underway on a 465.39-metre section, with 72.65 metres of mud-trapping surface being laid.
On Bessenyei György Street, 312.27 metres of road and 64.39 metres of mudguard are being built. On Eötvös Street, a 202.7-metre section is being developed, and on Nagy Sándor Street, a 129.87-metre section, to which a total of 38.66 metres of mudguard is attached.
The construction sites include 133.53 metres of Szabó Pál Street and 286.31 metres of Belsőmajor Street. New surfacing is being laid over 306.44 metres on Ladik Street and 267.96 metres on Csíkász Street.

Rainwater drainage is also being sorted out

Drainage improvement works are being carried out in parallel with the road construction works. Existing earthen and lined ditches will be cleared out and, where necessary, their profiles restored; maintenance of the culverts will also be the contractor’s responsibility.
On Báthory Street, a 48.3-metre section of the existing open drainage system will be converted into a closed sewer. On Bessenyei György Street, the works include the reconstruction of the drainage system and the covering of an 18-metre stretch of a covered ditch, whilst on Eötvös and Nagy Sándor Streets, a further 33.1 metres of the existing ditch will be covered.
On Akácos, Batthyány, Bessenyei György, Ladik and Csíkász Streets, a rest area for cyclists and pedestrians will be created on each street, featuring a five-space bicycle rack and a bench.
