Road building
The roadworks in Újpest have reached the halfway point: a new phase of works is set to begin on István út and Pozsonyi utca
The road resurfacing works on István út and Pozsonyi utca will enter a new phase on 4 September. Technical progress on the project in District IV has already exceeded 50 per cent, whilst the new surface layers have been completed on several sections of road and a new pedestrian crossing has also been opened. Certain sections of Pozsonyi utca and István út, totalling approximately 1,700 metres in length, are being renovated under contract HE-DO. We last reported on the development HERE .
Work is already underway on laying the new road surface on several sections of road
As part of the project, the inner lane on the south-hand side of István út, between Lőrincz utca and Árpád út, has been resurfaced. Between Árpád út and Király utca, the wearing course has already been laid on the inner lane on the north-hand side.
The resurfacing of the inner lane has also been completed on the section between Petőfi Street and Lőrincz Street, in front of the document office, so it is now open to traffic. Water pipe installation work is currently underway in the outer lane.
One element of the development that has already been completed is the new pedestrian crossing between the Angyalföld depot and the Shell petrol station. This pedestrian link fills a gap in the route, making it easier to access the residential buildings in the neighbourhood.
A new phase of works is set to begin at the Tél utca–Pozsonyi utca junction
From 4 September, work will focus on another key location. The refurbishment of the traffic islands in the vicinity of the Tél utca–Pozsonyi utca junction will begin.
A new phase of works is set to begin on both the József Berda Street and Tél Street branches of the junction. During the works, it will not be possible to turn left from István Road or Pozsonyi Street; in addition, drivers should expect lane closures and road narrowings.
New green spaces and accessible junctions are also being developed
The project involves more than just the resurfacing of the carriageway. The surfacing of several sections of pavement will be renewed, links for pedestrians and cyclists will be improved, and new green spaces will also be created.
As part of the development, several junctions will be made accessible. The junction on Tél Street and the crossroads on Király Street will also become safer and more cycle-friendly, and new pedestrian crossings will be built.
The project therefore aims not only to modernise the road infrastructure but also to improve road safety and quality of life in the area.
The project is already past the halfway point
The renovation of István út and Pozsonyi utca is currently more than 50 per cent complete. In the coming period, the works will extend to further sections, whilst the sections of road that have already been completed will gradually be reopened to traffic.
The BKK will keep passengers informed of any changes to the timetable for subsequent services.
