Szolnok takes big step towards quality drinking water

Szolnok's water pipeline reconstruction programme continues: the renovation of the drinking water backbone under Ady Endre Road can begin. Last year, the section between Boldog Sándor István Street and Batthyány Street was renovated, and now the project will continue up to Thököly Road, said the press conference on the project.

The modernisation is necessary because the city has a high incidence of pipe bursts and leaks due to aging pipes, which can lead to water or traffic restrictions. The replacement is also justified because asbestos cement, which is harmful to health, was used during construction.

The contractor BONEX Construction Kft. is replacing the backbone line under Ady Endre Road from Kronberg János Street to Eötvös Square (Thököly Road) between the roundabout and the roundabout.During the related works, the line lining will be carried out for 1262 m and, according to the mayor Ferenc Szalay, the road surface will also be repaired.

Plumbing and sustainability

The Tiszamenti Regionális Vízművek Zrt, a member of the National Waterworks Zrt. Group, is implementing one of the major investments in Szolnok this year with the support of 450 million HUF from the Ministry of Energy. At the event, Zsolt V. Németh, State Secretary for Water Management, said that sustainability must be reflected in all developments - the Szolnok water pipeline development is an example of this.

He indicated that the Water Utility Development and Supply Fund will allocate resources to all municipal and public utilities on a normative basis. He added that this not only gives the service providers the opportunity, but also obliges them to carry out reconstruction work with the funds allocated. This was in the order of hundreds of billions of forints nationally last year and this year.

According to initial calculations, around eight hundred kilometres of pipelines were renewed in the country last year, and funds were also needed to reconstruct sewage treatment plants.
