The Ministry has established the Kós Károly Lifetime Achievement Award in Architecture

Architects and construction experts who are committed to preserving Hungarian architectural traditions, architectural culture and construction, and who represent the highest standards, deserve the highest recognition, according to a statement by Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium (ÉKM).

This is why the Ministry decided to establish a new architectural lifetime achievement award of unprecedented weight, named after the legendary architect Károly Kós, whose home and community-building, culture-creating career is testified by his public role, the churches, special houses, schools, buildings of the Budapest Zoo and the main square of Wekerletelep - according to the press release.

The award will be presented on Károly Kós' birthday, 16 December.

The first Lifetime Achievement Award in Architecture was created for the entire Hungarian population of the Carpathian Basin

The prize is open to one person per year and is awarded once. This will create the first lifetime achievement award in the Carpathian Basin Hungarian construction industry, with a cash prize of 15 times the average gross salary. The committee deciding on the award will include representatives of the most important professional organisations, such as the MMA Section for Architecture and the Hungarian Chamber of Architects, and will be chaired by the National Chief Architect.

In addition to the new award, the Ybl Prize, the Mőcsényi Prize, the Forster Prize, the Schönvisner Prize, the Pro Architectura Prize and the Builders' Certificate of Recognition. Nominations are welcome on the awards website ÉKM.
