Following the resumption of traffic in September, the technical handover of the Flórián Square flyover was also completed on 7 October.

Although, from the point of view of road users, the project was effectively complete with the resumption of traffic timed to coincide with the start of the new school term, work on the Flórián Square flyovers continued for several more weeks. However, the associated restoration and repair work has now been fully completed, according to the developer, BKK.

The worksite has been cleared, the equipment and materials have been removed, and the surface junction has been restored; thus, all work on the KM Építő Kft. project – carried out in accordance with the plans for Főmterv Zrt. – has been completed. The technical handover procedure was completed today, 7 October.

Minor roadworks were also carried out, and the temporary traffic barriers were removed

The statement also went into detail, stating that by September only minor repairs, cosmetic improvements and roadworks had been carried out. Among other things, the existing stone cladding on the bridge abutments was repaired, replaced and supplemented, and the necessary minor roadworks were carried out.

The restoration of the surface junction has been completed with the removal of the temporary traffic management measures and diversions. The temporary measures – such as the U-turn on Pacsirtamező Street – helped to maintain traffic flow during the renovation, but have now been removed following the completion of the works.

However, the bus priority measures introduced during the refurbishment will remain in place on Szentendrei út and Pacsirtamező utca even after the works have been completed.

These were the key elements of the project

The renovation of the Flórián Square flyovers, which were built 40 years ago, has become necessary due to their significantly deteriorated condition. The bridges play a key role in transport links between Budapest and its surrounding areas.

Work began in March 2025 on the southern flyover, and continued in November 2025 on the northern flyover. The southern flyover reopened to motor traffic in November 2025, whilst the northern flyover reopened on 30 August 2026. This marked the completion of the structural refurbishment of the two flyovers. With the completion of the subsequent restoration, fault-repair and road-construction works, the entire project was finally completed.
