The Tömb 2002 can carry out the conversion and extension of the listed building.

The Romanian–Hungarian cross-border programme Interreg VI-A was established to strengthen cross-border intercultural relations and cultural tourism, as well as to ensure the coordinated modernisation of the cultural infrastructure in both regions. Under this programme, Nyíregyháza, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, Szatmárnémeti and the Szatmár Megyei Tanács programme. As part of the project, the Dinu Lipatti Philharmonic Hall in Satu Mare will be equipped with modern facilities; a joint marketing strategy will be developed to promote cultural tourism; and in Nyíregyháza, a cultural centre will be established through the renovation and extension of the municipally-owned building at 25 Bocskai Street.

An old building turned into a youth centre

The building at 25 Bocskai Street, a locally listed building, is situated in the centre of Nyíregyháza. Nyíregyháza’s primary aim in developing this property is to address the lack of community spaces for young people and to preserve the council-owned building. The property has previously provided space for youth organisations, and its condition has long called for a complete refurbishment; consequently, the funds from the programme, established with EU support, can fortunately be channelled into this building as well.

The listed façade facing the street will be preserved and restored as part of the project, whilst a new wing will also be built towards the rear of the site. The new centre will be fitted with heat pump technology and a wheelchair-accessible reception area.

Among other things, the three-storey building will house multi-purpose workshops, rehearsal rooms and event spaces; construction work on the building is being carried out by public procurement will be carried out by TÖMB 2002 Kft. at a cost of approximately 562 million forints. It has one year to complete the work. As a result of the development, the building – which will be expanded to a usable floor area of over 900 square metres – will provide a modern, sustainable home for young people’s creative and community programmes.
