What is being built?
The University of Debrecen's Natural Science Centre is being renovated
We have reported several times recently that parts of the university in Debrecen are undergoing renovation. Most recently, we wrote about the project for the main building of the Böszörményi út campus, but we have also reported on the development of the medical training high-rise building.
Now, one of the most distinctive parts of the central campus, the Chemistry Building, home to natural science courses, is undergoing renovation with the support of the EU's Environment and Energy Efficiency Operational Programme. As can be seen from the public procurement data reveals, the development, worth a net value of HUF 2.539 billion, will be carried out by Tömb 2002 Kft..
The Chemistry Building, located near the main campus, houses the offices of the Department of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, the Department of Bioengineering, the Department of Mineralogy, the Department of Earth Sciences, and seminar and lecture rooms related to the theoretical teaching functions. The building is complex in form: it is divided into five units, of which building unit B is divided into three further units.
The project, which is now underway, will renovate the external façade, which will significantly reduce operating costs, while restoring the block to its original design.
The works will involve replacing and renovating
- existing thermally insulated aluminium and plastic window systems,
- the shading systems,
- the glass walls,
- the stone pavements,
- the plastered surfaces,
- the plinths,
- as well as lightning arresters.
As part of the project, among other things, nearly 6,000 square metres of aluminium facades with exposed ribs will be constructed and around 3,800 square metres of new stone paving will be installed.
