What is being built?
The Vörösmarty Mihály Library in Székesfehérvár has been renovated with a new roof and façade.
The exterior renovation of the Vörösmarty Mihály Library building on Oskola Street in Székesfehérvár has been completed. The project, which began in February 2025 and was funded by the local government, took ten months to complete. The work was carried out by the VEMÉVSZER Group at a cost of more than 400 million forints, according to szekesfehervar.hu.
Complete roof and façade renovation
During the works, the entire roof structure, which was one of the most critical structural elements of the building, was renewed. During construction, it was necessary to ensure that the building remained watertight, so the attic floor was insulated and the entire roof was thermally insulated. More than 100 cubic metres of timber were used to construct the roof structure.
Scaffolding could not be erected in the inner courtyard, so part of the roof was constructed using alpine techniques.
Original appearance, modern technical content
As part of the investment, approximately 1,000 square metres of façade was renovated, restoring the building to its original appearance. Damaged stone and decorative elements – cornices, coats of arms, stone elements – were restored.
Of the more than 50 windows and doors, one was completely restored („witness window”), while the other windows were installed with a period-appropriate appearance but modern technical parameters. The entrance gate and the stairs leading up to it were also renovated.
Decorative lighting and external appearance
As part of the renovation, the building was given a new exterior colour scheme and decorative lighting was installed to emphasise the architecture of the building.
The work took place in a continuously operating library building, which posed significant organisational and technical challenges.
