Zselic competes in tourism with this programme
A complex development project to improve tourism infrastructure is set to begin in Zselic and along the Drava River, with two investments of 1.2 billion forints each to be completed by 2029, according to the Somogy County Council.
They indicated that the support agreement for projects implemented from the Regional and Local Development Operational Programme Plus (TOP Plusz) fund was signed on Thursday in Gálosfa and Drávaszentes by representatives of the consortium-leading local government, local organisations and associations.
On foot, on two wheels and in the saddle: a new network of trails is being created in Zselic
They emphasised that, as part of the development, a hiking network serving the needs of hikers, cyclists and horse riders alike will be created in Zselic by connecting existing routes and designating new ones, as well as ensuring the accessibility of national routes such as the National Blue Trail and the Eurohorse riding route.
Six stops will be set up with rest areas, information points, cycling services and horse riding opportunities. Map markings to help hikers find their way, digital hiking information content and the integration of the local cycle path and hiking network will also be provided, they added.
They emphasised that the project, which caters to several types of tours, will increase the competitiveness of Zselic in terms of tourism offerings, while also boosting business for local services and hospitality establishments.
On water and on shore: tourism along the Drava could become nationally significant
Attila Gelencsér, Member of Parliament for Kaposvár and Zselic, was quoted as saying at the signing of the agreement that the investment complements the tourist attractions of Lake Balaton and is particularly important because it serves the development of the region.
The local government announced the following regarding the planned water tourism development on the Drava River:
water stops and entry and exit points will be established and modernised in Őrtilos, Vízvár, Heresznye, Barcs, Drávatamási and Szentborbás in order to offer a „broader range of active tourism experiences” to water tourists, cyclists and those setting out to explore nature trails.
The main goal is to create a complex and visitor-friendly water tourism network that will turn the Drava region into a nationally significant active tourism route, improve the region's tourism infrastructure, and increase the services available on the river for water sports and water tourism enthusiasts, according to the announcement.
