Up to 1,500 cubic metres of concrete are being poured in each phase of the Paks expansion
Since the first concrete pour in early February, work has continued non-stop: construction of the base slab is underway in the excavation pit for Unit 5. The concrete base for the entire nuclear island is not being completed all at once. To ensure the task is carried out efficiently and safely, the area has been divided into smaller and larger sections, and the interdependent work processes are being carried out in parallel; at the end of each stage, a section of the nuclear island’s foundation slab is poured using special concrete.
Up to 1,500 cubic metres of concrete are poured during each phase. As this work cannot be interrupted, several concrete pumps operate simultaneously to ensure continuous progress, even at night.
