One of Central Europe's most modern military complexes is being built in Szolnok on the site of a barracks that closed twenty years ago.

A military area that closed twenty years ago is being redeveloped in Szolnok: one of Central Europe's most modern military facilities is being built on the site of the former barracks on Thököly út. The general contractor, ZÁÉV Építőipari Zrt., has completed the construction of the special operations barracks, which was announced at a topping-out ceremony.

The new base will be built at a cost of 59 billion forints.

The investment will be financed exclusively from Hungarian budgetary resources, amounting to approximately 59 billion forints, said Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky at the event. He added that the facility is being built for the Special Operations Command, which is one of the Hungarian Armed Forces' fastest-responding, most highly trained and specially equipped branches.

The new military centre will also play a regional role

The new barracks will also be the new home of the special purpose brigade, the special operations command, and the regional special operations component command. Lieutenant General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Hungarian Defence Forces, emphasised that the development is closely linked to the multinational Regional Special Operations Component Command, which will be established with the participation of Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Austria, in addition to Hungary.

High-tech equipment maintenance will also be carried out at the complex.

The new housing complex ensures the secure storage and maintenance of high-tech equipment, drones, special communication systems, weapons and combat vehicles, complies with the most stringent information security requirements, and provides modern conditions for special training and constant readiness.
