Three schools in eastern Hungary are being refurbished as part of a comprehensive development programme

The Berettyóújfalu School District Centre comprises 41 institutions. Nearly 12–13,000 children attend school in the four districts it covers (Berettyóújfalu, Derecske, Hajdúszoboszló and Püspökladány). The region’s education system includes several outstanding, regionally recognised institutions, such as the Derecske I. Rákóczi György Grammar School, Technical College and Boarding School, which is also affected by the current investment. The Berettyóújfalu School District Centre has tender, worth a total of 333,950,000 forints, was awarded to TÖMB 2002 Szolgáltató Kft.. The contractor has nine months to carry out the development work at the three educational institutions in Hajdú-Bihar County.

Thermal insulation work is being carried out at Derecske Grammar School

The aim of the development project at the György I. Rákóczi Grammar School, Technical College and Boarding School in Derecske is to modernise the building’s energy efficiency and renovate its exterior. During the works, more than 700 square metres of old wooden doors and windows will be replaced with modern ones, and the building will be fitted with retrofitted thermal insulation and new façade render across an area of approximately 1,800 square metres. Energy efficiency will also be improved by the installation of 302 new LED light fittings. In addition, the building will be made fully accessible through the construction of a new ramp and a specially adapted toilet.

Focus on mechanical engineering at the primary school in Hajdúszoboszló

The entire heating and mechanical systems at the Pávai Vajna Ferenc Primary School in Hajdúszoboszló are being rebuilt using the allocated funding. The main element of the modernisation is the replacement of the old, outdated gas boilers: four modern, high-performance wall-mounted condensing boilers are being installed, along with a completely new flue and pipework system. In the classrooms, the old cast-iron radiators, together with their pipework, will be replaced with modern, thermostat-controlled, so-called vandal-proof panel radiators. As part of the project, an accessible toilet will also be installed here.

The asbestos roofing on the Püspökladány primary school is being replaced

The most important aspects of the renovation of the Sándor Petőfi Primary School in Püspökladány were identified as the complete reconstruction of the roof structure and ensuring the site is accessible to all. The most important step will be the professional dismantling and safe disposal of the old flat-tile roof, which covers an area of nearly 2,000 square metres and contains asbestos – and is therefore classified as hazardous waste. The timber roof structure will be inspected, treated with a protective coating to guard against fungi, insects and fire, and then a new flat slate roof will be installed. Fully accessible access will be provided for people with reduced mobility: a new cobbled car park, an access path and an accessible toilet will be built, whilst a stairlift will be installed to overcome the difference in floor levels within the building.
